The Mets

Visiting the Egyptian Art Exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was a really interesting experience, and it helped me understand ancient Egypt better than just reading about it in class. Before going, I mostly thought of Egypt as pyramids, mummies, and pharaohs, but seeing the actual objects in person made everything feel more real. The artwork, statues, and decorated coffins showed me how advanced their culture was and how much meaning they put into everything they created.

One thing that stood out to me was how focused the Egyptians were on the afterlife. The designs on the sarcophagi and the symbols carved into different pieces showed that they really believed in protecting the soul and preparing for what comes next. I also liked seeing everyday items, like jewelry and amulets, because it showed that art wasn’t just for the kings—it was part of normal life too. The level of detail in some of the statues and carvings was surprising, especially considering how long ago they were made.

Overall, the exhibit made me appreciate ancient Egypt more. It wasn’t just old stuff in a museum—it actually helped me imagine what life back then might have been like. I’m glad I went because it made history feel more interesting and less distant.

Here are some pictures I took from the Meusean
